Shawn Heflick joined me to talk about one of the largest species of snake on earth that has invaded the Florida Everglades – the Burmese Python. Some of these giants can weigh up to 200 pounds and can reach 23 feet in length and are crawling through a swamp near you…if you live in the Florida everglades that is! Some are abandoned pets, others are believed to have escaped en masse after Hurrican Andrew barrelled through south Florida. These snakes are reproducing new generations pythons so listen in as Shawn talks about how they are hunting them down and what to do if you run across one of these creatures!

Denise Fleck of Sunnydogink.com joined us to talk about some safety issues and some of the work she has been doing with the Burbank Animal Shelter. In addition some very important news for people in the western states that may have issues with Rattle Snakes! Her Akita “Bonzai” was bitten by a rattler in California and lived. Seems that Denise had the inkling to start Bonzai on a rattle snake vaccine program weeks before which no doubt saved her furry friend’s life. Listen in on how you can prevent a tragedy of this type for your pet.

Jeff Dorson of the Louisiana Humane Society has been on the front line of this oil spill disaster from the beginning. A veteran of the Huricane Katrina disaster, Jeff knows first hand every day what is going on in Louisiana. Even though the flow has been stopped, let’s not forget that we still do not know the extent of the damage done yet and the animal rescue causes in the Gulf will continue to need our help.
