AAA - Who has not heard of the AAA? I have been a member of the Auto Club for 30 years! I can’t believe I’m old enough to even say that! After meeting Heather Hunter of the National AAA at the Pet Writing Conference in New York last February, I knew we had to get her on the show. I’m glad she could finally join us and very happy that she was able to fit us in to her hectic schedule. Heather has yellow labs so she knows what it is like for us that travel with our pets. She shares some really great resources and a few facts I bet you didn’t know! AAA covers, and personally inspects the places they write about in their guides so they know what they are talking about!

Darlene McCaslin was with us a few months ago and has been hard at work making Pikes Peak Pet Pantry one of the best in the country! Darlene stopped by to tell us about the lasted pet food drive that is happening until August 15th.  They have helped keep over 1000 pets out of shelters in the Pikes Peak area and surrounding counties by helping people feed their animals during these trying econimic times. Please donate if you can, and if not check out their site for other pantrys around the country that may be in your area? None in your area, they can also give you tips on how to start one!

Concerned Dog Owners of California

Interesting turn of events this week led me to contact Cathie Turner of the CDOC! An email from my cousin Sherrie, a long time breeder of Champion Boxers from Grass Valley California began my investigation into this recent law that has taken affect in Los Angeles for mandatory Spay/Neuter. Sherrie was recently visiting us here in Ohio and we began talking about some of the laws around the country because Ohio has started the Breed Specific nonsense here for the “pit-bull” law! Well, Cathie was nice enough to join us to discuss the mandatory spay neuter law and why it is NOT saving the lives of dogs where it is in effect. She also has news about another city that is actually doing a great job controlling thier pet population without euthanizing and it is NOT IN THE USA!  Imagine that!

The Planet Dog Foundation Helping provide Therapy and Assistance Dogs!

Planet Dog has been with us here at the My Buddy Butch Talk Show since the beginning! We have reviewed some of the new toys they have on the market on a few of the first shows we did. I love talking to these people to find out what they are up to because they never dissapoint. Kristen Smith, director of Planet Dog Foundation talks about the aid that the foundation gives to organizations around the country to help organizations raise, train, and provide Therapy and Assistance dogs to people in need. She talks about many different types of assistance dogs and even mentions the work that small breed dogs can do to help their people in need. They also help organizations that use Rescued dogs for therapy and assistance programs. Don’t forget to check out their store Web Site also for great products. RESCUE SHELTER OF THE WEEK

Unique owners needed for unique dogs!

We had a great time with Deb Ray of the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue! She joined us to talk about the specific needs of this working breed and exactly where they came from! Stressing the importance of RESEARCHING the breed BEFORE adopting there are some very specific things you should know about why this breed was developed and what this means to you and your family. They make great pets and are an active breed so listen in to the interview and check out the website!

Dr. Donna Spector checks in with part three of the series on Summer Troubles - “Toxic Landscaping.” Did you know that some types of mulch are made from coco shells. and what is coco used for…MAKING CHOCOLATE! All of our dogs love a big CHOCOLATE milk shake or candy bar once a day RIGHT? WRONG!!!! The same chemicals that could potentially kill your dog are also in coco shell mulch that may be in your yard! Dr. Donna advises that you check the ingredients and types of plants you use in your yard. She also told us about a great section of the ASPCA Web Site where you can type the name of a plant in a search engine and find out if it is harmful to your pet. Also did you know that fluoride is harmful for your pet? Dr. Donna is going to be talking about the recent studies on fluoride and how they affect your pet’s health in an upcoming show! You really should not miss this one!

Susie Aga, Certified Canine Behavior and Training Specialist, and pet expert for Turner Broadcasting (TBS) joined us to talk about her experience as a leader in the field of animal behavior. Do you you know what to do if you encounter a dog on your liesurely summer stroll? Do you know the warning signs that a dog might attack you? Do you know what to do if a Dog should charge directly at you? Well Susie gives us a few tips on how to handle this situation and what to look for! Susan Smith of the Franklin County Dog Shelter near Columbus Ohio joined us to talk about the many animals that they have saved! They place over 13,000 dogs an puppies each year, making them one of the largest rescue shelters in the midwest! They have a great Web Site so have a look and if you are in the surrounding Columbus area check out the adoptions they have available!

Last year Oprah and Lisa Ling did the famous “Puppy Mill show” exposing the deplorable situations that these animals are forced to live in while churning out “retail ready” puppys for the unsuspecting, and in many cases uneducated public. I would bet that most people, if made aware of the circumstances by which that cute puppy ended up in the pet store window, would most definitely “pass” on buying it. Join us for this week’s show as we talk to Bill Smith from Main Line Rescue in Pennsylvania who appeared on that Oprah show to bring to light the “puppy mill” situation. Bill reminds us of the conditions which these animals are kept in and what progress has been made with legislation.
