This week – Hour 1 – Jeff starts of the year in a Holistic mood. We are going to be investigating all things healthy and we start with a bit of Aroma Therapy and essential oils. Jeff is relatively new to this so Vicki Rae Thorne of Earth Heart Inc. joins him to answer the questions what is aroma therapy how does it help you pet and what is the difference between an essential oil and a good 10w-30? We learn a lot from Vicki. Remember the Rescue Animal MP3 Project we introduced in 2011? Well, Dr. Pamela Fisher is back with us again to celebrate their new official ”non-profit” status and tell us what is happening. Dr. Pamela Fisher is the founder of this program and she is a Veterinarian and a “Holistic Veterinarian” at that! They are doing great work and helping MANY shelters and rescue orgs including local dog pounds. News – This was bound to happen sooner or later, someone is suing so that pets are “Not Property!” Pets mean so much to so many people listen in to hear about this lawsuit and voice your opinion!

Hour 2 – Dr. Dawn Marcus MD has been with us for a long time here on the My Buddy Butch Show. She is a delight to have on the show and always has something that will help us live healthier lives. She is the author of “Fit as Fido” and “The Power of Wagging Tails” and is here to talk about a new study that she is conducting. If you have migraines and own a dog, you can participate in this study that may lead to service dogs being used to predict migraines! Butch has had some trouble with anal glands. Have you had a good anal gland expression lately? Well he needed one for a painful impacted sac and boy it hurt. Jeff comments on what he has been told about this from both traditional and holistic vets. What is YOUR opinion? With the uprising in Libya pretty much over the aftermath includes zoo animals on the brink of starvation. The world community has been trying to help but with a price tag of $2000 per day trying to feed over 800 animals time is running out for them. Will their new government be able to help?

Hour 1 – Jeff continues the discussion with Certified Animal Behavior Consultant and award winning author Darlene Arden. Last time she talked about how to choose a vet for your pet. This time we talk about Pet Insurance and alternative methods of funding a pet’s health care. Can you believe it! We have enough trouble in this country with human health care and now we are even talking about pet health care! Did you get that new pet for Christmas? Do you know someone that did? Jeff gives a few tips on learning more about taking care of that pet. Do you have some New Year Resolutions? Ever heard of Wishbomb.com? It’s a goal setting web site that is actually a community of people that help support each other to reach their goals! Jeff’s New Year Resolution for Butch.

Hour 2 – Jeff looks at the year 2011 in review. Talks about some of the things that guests have taught us about animals and pets and also takes a look at some of the top news stories of 2011. Remember the mass bird die off that happened in Alabama, Arkansas, and Italy? How about the discovery of a new dinosaur that was found in a British natural history museum? Dr. Patrick mahaney joins Jeff to talk about “Mutt Health.” Jeff has discussed that Mutts or mixed breed Dogs can be healthier than a pure bred dog because they are pulling from a larger gene pool than a pure bred…well this might not be entirely true! Jeff also talks about some of the things coming up in 2012…Remember “Daniel” The Beagle Mix that survived being “gassed” in Alabama? Well the little fella has found a home in New Jersey after surviving the dog pound’s attempt at euthanizing him.

There are many things to consider and questions need to be asked just like you are looking for a good doctor for yourself! Jeff catches up with Dr. Patrick Mahaney of California Pet Acupuncture and Wellness to talk about a few of the Star studded events that he has attended and for the Vet Topic of the week – Toxic plants. This time of year with people bringing plants as gifts it helps to know which ones are harmful to what pets…a topic we have covered but a good reminder especially this Christmas weekend. Ever eat potato chips that have been exposed to the air for a day or two? Flat stale chips is what you get…well your pet’s dry cat or dog food is no different from those chips, they absorb as much moisture as they can at every opportunity. Jos Zamzow is the founder of Dynamite Specialty products and he joins Jeff to talk about a problem he had when looking for wholesome treats to give his pets. The difficulty was finding treats that did not have chemicals in them with names too long to pronounce! Jos took on the challenge of making treats that HE knew would be healthy for animals and has come up with many products for just about any pet you can think of. This week – Hour 1 – National Geographic’s award winning series Alaska State Troopers is now in it’s third season. Dan Stern, writer and executive producer of the series joins Jeff to talk about what it is like spending a whole year in Alaska to film the series and some of the things that they had to deal with. Personally, Jeff doesn’t know if he could handle the “midnight sun” in Alaska in the summer time! They also talk about some of the upcoming episodes. Dr. Shelly Rubin is past president of the American Heartworm Society and used to be Oprah’s choice for a veterinarian before she moved to California to run her network. He stops by to talk a bit about flea, tick, heartworm preventatives and remedies. After a recent tv news report by Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, that over-the-counter remedies have caused serious illness and death to some pets, Jeff wants to dig into this possibility with Dr. Rubin.
Hour 2
Vickie Fisher is the President of The International Cat Association and she joins Jeff to talk about their involvement in the “Meet The Breeds” show at the Javits Center in New York City in November. This is a great function for the whole family because there are not only cats but the AKC is also involved and so there are many breeds of dogs exhibited also! Dogs and Cats under the same roof is sure to be and exciting time and Vickie tell us about it! Big Cat Week Starts on December 11th on Nat Geo Wild. This week – Hour 1 – The ASPCA has a great web site not only for their Animal Poison Control Center that can help pet owners in an emergency 24/7, 365 days each year but also for holiday do’s and dont’s with your pet. Jeff goes down the checklist that all pet owners should be aware of and reminds everyone of the potential hazards. Dr. Frank McMillin is the Director of Wellness for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in KANAB, Utah. Best Friends was the rescue featured in National Geographic’s “Dog Town” Show. Dr. Frank joins Jeff for the rescue of the week segment to talk about the mental damage that the puppy mills put the dogs through that produce the puppy’s we see in chain pet stores. With the amount of dogs, cats and other animals in many over crowded shelters around the country, Jeff reminds us that these places, and breed rescues are the places to get that new furry family member.

This week – Hour 1 – Have you seen the movie “Secretariat” yet. Well this Disney movie naturally documents what many call the greatest race horse of all time. However, would he have been as great if he did not have an arch rival pushing him? “Sham – Great Was Second Best” is a book by Phil Dandrea and Phil joins Jeff this week to talk about the research he did on this other great horse that many have overlooked over the years. Also, Dr. Shelly Rubin stops by for the Vet Topic of the week. Seeing all the dogs in close proximity at the National Dog show, Jeff questions what precautions are needed to make sure disease does not spread between dogs. Pet owners taking pets to training or boarding need to know about this. Dr. Rubin also talks more about the research going into a possible resistant strain of heartworm. Now this is only research, and some of the things that they are looking into include pets that have tested positive even though they have been given preventative medication. Was it administered properly by the owners or is this a new type that we should be aware of? Also news and announcements…Butch Loves Chicken jerky but now there has been a problem reported with jerky imported from….guess where…

Hour 2 – It’s catch up time! Jeff spends time after falling way behind on emails, products and interviews! The National Dog Show Presented by Purina was this past week on Thanksgiving day. Jeff attended the event and has a few interviews and had a quick chat with Mary Carillo, David Frei, and John O’Hurley who was actually opening on Broadway in the show “Chicago.” This (and any pets show) is always a great event for the whole family and being the 10 year anniversary it did not disappoint. You will also meet a 10 year old brand new junior handler and hear how she got involved with showing dogs. RECALLS – Do you have any idea how many recalls there have been in the last 4 years? About 80 Cat food brands, about 120 Dog food brands, 9 horse food brands and even a reptile food… Well Jeff goes on a rant about it! He bets that a brand of something that you give to your pet has been involved. Learn how to find ALL the brands that have been recalled. Also, Family Movie update from the Hallmark Channel and Dove Foundation for the upcoming holidays. News and announcements.
