Now, Dean’s latest adventure, leaping off of Canada’s Mount Butte, a 9000 foot granite wall on the Pacific coast…after climbing it of course, and National Geographic Channel’s Explorer has covered it all. Dean joins Jeff to talk about this adventure and what he had to do to prepare for it. Also Dr. Patrick Mahaney joins Jeff to talk about a severely abused Pittbull and how it was nursed back to health but the story does not stop there! Now entities are fighting over the Intellectual property rights of the dog…where does the greed end UNBELIEVABLE! Also product review of Earth Heart Inc.’s “Canine Calm.”

Hour 2 – The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was this past week on Monday and Tuesday. Cindy Vogels was chosen to be the “Best in Show” judge for this historic event and Jeff had the chance to speak to Cindy about this honor and her background at the annual press conference call. TV host and friend of the My Buddy Butch Show David Frei also attended the call and Jeff had the opportunity to speak with him also and stirred up an unintended hornet’s nest! Jeff gives a rundown on the finalists, the AKC definition of the seven groups, and a congrats to the winner!

With over 200 companies joining just this year alone, the pet business shows no signs of slowing down and they can help you make important connections. Dr. Patrick Mahaney joins us to talk about a disaster preparrdness checklist. Did you know that people, children, and pets ALL swallow small items? REALLY? Things not meant to be swallowed can be bad but small disc batteries are among those things that are swallowed that can cause serious life long damage and can even be fatal to children and pets. Dr. Partick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars in Hollywood joins us to talk about this issue that he has seen in his practice. Pot Belly Pigs make great family pets!

 thought of having a pot bellied pig as a pet. We talked about it before here on the show and Jeff was excited to talk to Vickie Barrow the owner of “The Best Little Pot Belly Pig House in Texas!” Vickie has loved pigs since she was a child on their family farm and has had Pot Bellied Pigs for the last 20 years. She has a state licensed herd in Texas and her pot bellies are highly sought after by those in Hollywood like George Clooney (we all know he had Max), J-Lo, and even Jay Leno has contacted her. Her pigs have been in movies and on TV many times! A very sweet lady doing what she loves!

You have to hear this she is very passionate about this topic and you will see…or rather hear! Bed Bugs have not gone away just be cause it summer and if you are traveling this summer you need to beware of your surroundings and how these little ‘buggers” can ride into your house on your pet! Jeff gives some tips on how to prevent infestation. 

Hour 2- Dr. Dawn Marcus MD, Professor, Neurologist and author of “The Power of Wagging Tails” joins Jeff to discuss the study that she conducted at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center regarding the effect of therapy dogs on pain management patients in the waiting room. We have all had to sit in a Doctor’s waiting room either sick or in pain. These folks, some having no hope of a cure, are there to try and live with their pain. Listen in to the surprising results of this study that Dr. Dawn wanted to announce on our show before it was released to the national medical journals. This week  – Neurologist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh Dr. Dawn Marcus is back with us to talk about the release of her new book “The Power of Wagging Tails.” Therapy dogs are doing unbelievable work helping people cope with various ailments and now Dr. Marcus is doing a study of the use of therapy dogs in waiting rooms. She also talks about how your dog could possibly make a great therapy dog. Dr. Patrick Mahaney is with us for the 4th part of the series about his visit to Peru…exotic animals a three toed sloth. Dr. Marcus also hangs around to talk about how exposing your baby to pets can help them avoid allergies later in life. She has been involved with many studies regarding this. Buck a new film about the REAL Horse Whisperer is out this weekend. Pets are getting sick from Cicada Ingestion, and Dogs are dying of Parvovirus in our news segment.

Well, many in the non-profit pet world know exactly what to do and are doing it! Great Degree to pursue if you are looking to change careers or just find a new one! Also Dr. Pamela Fisher is a Holistic Veterinarian and she joins Jeff for the Vet Topic of the Week and The Rescue segment also to talk about therapeutic music tests that are going to be happening in shelters to see if the music really does soothe the animals that are in a bad situation. Author Jackie Sonnenberg joins Jeff to talk about her new book that was released in April “How to Raise Your New Puppy in a Cat Family.” Have a cat but want to bring a pup into the mix or do you want to adopt one of each? Well here is a great book for Summer Reading! Also we continue our series with Dr. Patrick Mahaney on his trip to Peru. Ever wonder what the local fare is at their “outdoor ” markets? Well he will tell us. Summer heat is upon us and Jeff gives a few reminders about the heat and some of the tell “tail” signs he has already seen with Butch on how the heat takes its toll. Horse Virus Herpes-1 spreading in western states closed Horse Competitions across the country to curtail this serious problem also Letter Carriers, and Meter readers for the Gas and Electric Companies are out and around our homes. Make sure your pet does not pose a threat to these great people trying to do their jobs!
