Hour 1: This week Jeff goes a bit off the beaten path to talk about a subject that we may not think about often but may be showing up in your town or city in the near future. Nuclear Power! Think you can fit a Nuclear power plant in your city? Well guess what you can, as a matter of fact you could probably fit 2 or 3 in a modest sized back yard AND they can power 20,000 homes each! Jeff is joined by Renaissance man and author Reese Palley, to talk about his new book “THE ANSWER: Why Only Inherently Safe Mini Nuclear Power Plants Can Save Our World,” he argues that the consumption of fossil fuels is unsustainable and current attempts to restrict carbon dioxide (CO2) production do not go far enough to preserve our way of life. Are you still afraid of Pit-Bulls and the bully breeds of dogs? Well get ready for National Pit Bull Awareness Day coming up next week Micaela Myers of Stubbydog.org joins Jeff for the Rescue of the Week Segment and talks about this 5th annual event that helps dispel some of the bad myths about this breed and encourages people to visit a local shelter or rescue and hug a pit-bull.

Hour2: Ron Phillips is the Vice President of Legislative and Public Affairs for the Animal Health Institute and he joins Jeff to talk about what it is they do and what they are doing to insure that animals of all kinds are healthy and stay healthy! They have many programs that most people do not even know about that they are monitoring every day to make sure that the medications being used on our pets and feed animals is safe and what the government is doing to regulate the industry. Dr. Kim Bloomer of the American Council of Animal Naturopathy joins Jeff to talk about her new Great Dane Puppy “Meshack” and the new things that she had to buy to get ready for this new LARGE bundle of joy. Having lost their Neo Mastiff “Shadrack” last Spring, Dr. Kim and her husband already had a HUGE breed dog and know how to take care of one and what to expect. If you are not a large breed dog person you better know what you are getting into before you get one for your home! She shares some wisdom for having a large breed dog and these are the biggest! Hour 1 – Author Olga Horvat announced the release of her first book “Paranormal Pooch” about a toy poodle that affected a family but had some very peculiar things happen. Do you believe in the paranormal, Spirits, or your pet being possessed? Very interesting book and discussion. Dr. Kim Bloomer of ACAN joins Jeff to talk about how some celebrities feel they have to make their pets”Vegan” just because they are. You have to hear this she is very passionate about this topic and you will see…or rather hear! Bed Bugs have not gone away just be cause it summer and if you are traveling this summer you need to beware of your surroundings and how these little ‘buggers” can ride into your house on your pet! Jeff gives some tips on how to prevent infestation.

Hour 2- Dr. Dawn Marcus MD, Professor, Neurologist and author of “The Power of Wagging Tails” joins Jeff to discuss the study that she conducted at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center regarding the effect of therapy dogs on pain management patients in the waiting room. We have all had to sit in a Doctor’s waiting room either sick or in pain. These folks, some having no hope of a cure, are there to try and live with their pain. Listen in to the surprising results of this study that Dr. Dawn wanted to announce on our show before it was released to the national medical journals. Dr. Patrick Mahaney our Vet to the stars stops by to talk about the tragic death of Amy Winehouse and the situation her pets are in now that she is gone. Also an in-depth discussion about rabies and why this threat needs constant vigilance. Jeff received a letter from the President and CEO of the USO this past week.

This week – Neurologist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh Dr. Dawn Marcus is back with us to talk about the release of her new book “The Power of Wagging Tails.” Therapy dogs are doing unbelievable work helping people cope with various ailments and now Dr. Marcus is doing a study of the use of therapy dogs in waiting rooms. She also talks about how your dog could possibly make a great therapy dog. Dr. Patrick Mahaney is with us for the 4th part of the series about his visit to Peru…exotic animals a three toed sloth. Dr. Marcus also hangs around to talk about how exposing your baby to pets can help them avoid allergies later in life. She has been involved with many studies regarding this. Buck a new film about the REAL Horse Whisperer is out this weekend. Pets are getting sick from Cicada Ingestion, and Dogs are dying of Parvovirus in our news segment.

Hour 2

Dana Humphrey of Whitegate PR in New York and San Diego is with us to talk about the first “National Dog Party Day” simultaneously being held in both cities on June 24th. This week - Barry Irwin founder and CEO of Team Valor International joins us to talk about his winning Kentucky Derby Horse “Animal Kingdom” and his many years in horse racing. He tells us how he chooses a colt for the team and what a Bloodstock agent does. 2nd race of the triple crown is this weekend in Baltimore MD at Pimlico and we’ll be rooting for Animal Kingdom! The last time Dr. Kim Bloomer was with us, she was talking about her Neo Mastiff “Shadrak” and some of the difficulties he was having. She recognized that he was in his last days. Sadly, the very next day Shadrak passed away and Dr. Kim is here to talk about what she did to make his last moments on earth more comfortable and how she is handling the loss. All of our pets will die someday. It’s a fact of life that we don’t like to think about but eventually…

The New Series on National Geographic Channel – “Ice Pilots” every Friday evening at 10pm Eastern and Pacific. Mikey McBrian is General manager of Buffalo Airlines in the Northwest Territory of Canada and they fly crucial supplies into an area twicw the size of Texas to a population of 40,000 people! Dr. Patrick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars checks in to talk about an injury to a horse that happened at the Kentucky Derby and give us a preview of our new series about his trip to Peru to perform volunteerVeterinary work. They are on the front line of the Gulf Oil Spill. Let's see if we can help!

Jeff Dorson of the Louisiana Humane Society is no stranger to helping animals. Now they are working on the latest disaster to hit the New Orleans area, The Gulf Oil Spill. In fact, Jeff was also heavily involved with the Hurricane Katrina disaster that hit New Orleans and flooded the gulf states. They still have animals that they are trying to adopt that they saved from Katrina. They really need help there as they try to save as many birds and animals as they can in this difficult situation. THey are also teaming up with other orgs in the area such as the Clear Water Sanctuary in Bush Louisiana. Please try and help them if you can and see their Web Site for information on adopting one of the older dogs that they have from Katrina. This would be a big help.

It’s that time of year again! Denise Fleck of Sunnydogink.com is helping the Burbank Animal Shelter host its annual CPR demonstration event for pets this weekend. Denise is always great to have on the show and we had fun getting caught up on current events and some safety tips for this spring season. Fur Shui by Paula Brown

Paula Brown was absolutely delightful to talk to on the shw this week. We had a bit of fun with my unfamiliarity with how to pronounce Fur Shui which was derived from the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui (or Shwee or Shway or…). Anyway, I have had this book for awhile and had started reading it only to have to start over because I didn’t want to blast through it. This is a great summer reading book for the beach or by the pool teaching you that your pet does have an energy about them and how it affects you. Your energy or ”chi” affects your pet also! I’m going to do a little experiment, reading the rest of the book, while Paula is in Italy for her book signing, and will have her back on the show to report in my findings with Butch and have her explain to me her thoughts and possibly what I can learn about the environment I have created for Butch! RESCUE SHELTER OF THE WEEK

Sherri Franklin of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue joined us this week!

Sherri Franklin of the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco joined us this week for our Rescue Shelter segment. This is a unique rescue organization be cause they specialize in dogs that are 7 years or older. I think this is a great idea and had I known about this years ago when we got my Father “Buttons” Butch’s Mom, I might not have Butch. They have a Senior for Senior’s program which is a great way to give a Senior Citizen a companion that may not need much training. Because all of these dogs are older AND fostered in a home, not a kennel, they have been somewhat trained to behave around a house and are familiar with basic commands. Please check them out and consider adopting!

Dr. Kim Bloomer and Shadrach

Dr. Kim Bloomer host of Animal Talk Naturally joined us again this week to talk a bit about essential oils and gave some tips on what I can do to help Butch’s “Thunderphobia!” I’ve already received some great emails from people that have the same problem! She talks about essential oils, aroma therapy, and also a peculiar finding that it is possible that Rabies Shots could be the cause of Butch’s Thunderphobia and loud noises. This is interesting because we are all required to give these vaccines to our pets BY LAW NOT BY CHOICE. Now I get why we do this, to curb the spread of rabies in us humans but is there a better way? Dr. Kim and Dr. Jeannie Thomason were joined by Dr. Patricia Jordan and had a great show of their own this week regarding Vaccines and I urge you to check it out on This week’s Animal Talk Naturally titled Vaccine Insights! Another week already and we are almost into September. Kids back to school, football is upon us and the cool nights have already started! YUK! Cheryl Rosenthal joins us from the Oshkosh Wisconsin Area Humane society. Many of the shelters we interview participate in community events in their areas and this organization is no exception. They are teaming up with their local YMCA to host a great family event in one of ther local parks. Now, some parks are not open to animals on a regular basis but occasionally they open ther hearts, minds, homes, and wallets to help the cause of giving a deserving animal a life long home!
