Ben Huh author/compiler of the NY Times Best Seller “I Can Has Cheezburger” is at it again with this hilarious take on Dogs! The first title was to do about cats and now the new release “I Has A Hot Dog” is here for the dog set! Completely contributor driven this is a best seller that people from all over the world have contributed to and even had done the final editing on by choosing the pics and captions that went into the book. The Web Site boasts around 16 million views per month and with that kind of traffic there are sure to be new pictures and captions added daily. Hilarious book, great pictures, and great captions! Barbara Babikian has been a great friend to us here at My Buddy Butch and I don’t have her on the show often enough to talk about the great work they are doing to help soothe the pain and anguish felt by so many children and parents that are suffering from the effects of cancer and other life threatening diseases. 

She and “Lillie” have been with Angel on a Leash now for about 5 years and have done some amazing work and now barbara stops in to tell me of her latest charitable work for Hope and Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund. Barbara has become a team leader for this organization and in addition to her duties with Angel on a Leash is raising funds to help this noble cause which is hosting their First Annual Walk- A- Thon in New York on Sunday May 23rd. MORE FOOD BANKS HELPING TO FEED PETS ALSO – (NY Times) Animal shelters around the country are being flooded with hungry pets, and to tackle the problem, charitable organizations are setting up pet food banks, with products offered within regular food pantries.

PET FRIENDLY HOTELS FROWN ON DOG POOP (Hariet Baskas MSNBC.com) – Really? They must be kidding. I thought dodging pet poop was part of the experience, part of the essence, and yes part of the BONDING process that makes hotels love it when we bring our pets! I don’t mean BONDING poop to the bottom of my shoes! I’m with you Hariet, if people can’t follow the rules of a hotel STAY HOME! It’s the few that make it bad for the rest of us.

CALIFORNIA PONDERING ‘ANIMAL ABUSERS REGISTRY’  – As reported in an article by Alison Stateman in LA on Time’s blog, California State representative Dean Flores introduced this bill in late February but during a time where not only the State has financial trouble but pet owners are also struggling, can it pass when it needs to be funded by tax dollars? Great idea for the registry…let’s watch this one!

FLORIDA TO ALLOW BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION - (From Pet Product news intl.)Here we go again. I’m getting really sick of talking about this… Senate Bill 1276, sponsored by Sen. Tony Hill, D-Jacksonville, allows “any local government [to place] further restrictions or additional requirements on owners of dangerous dogs.” My Buddy Butch is a very dangerous and deadly dog… to squirrels….

Cheryl Rosenthal joins us from the Oshkosh Wisconsin Area Humane society. Many of the shelters we interview participate in community events in their areas and this organization is no exception. They are teaming up with their local YMCA to host a great family event in one of ther local parks. Now, some parks are not open to animals on a regular basis but occasionally they open ther hearts, minds, homes, and wallets to help the cause of giving a deserving animal a life long home!
