ALRIGHT! We’re Back in the Saddle Again! After a rough week of a bad chest cold and not being able to talk we’re back! Love the warm weather…forgot about the spring bloom that seems to be aggrivating allergies more every year. I don’t recall being allergic to the various blooming plants and tree pollen but I guess everyone changes as we all get a little older every year! Anyway, great to catch up this week and take in the requests from around the countryfor our new syndicated daily feature. It’s because of the different traits for different breeds that we like to talk about the needs of the particular breed(s) so people will know what they are getting into if they are interested in adopting. Mr. Wayne Ferguson has been involved with dog shows for over 40 years. It would be difficult to find someone that knows more than he does about the stucture of a dog show and even dogs themselves. Wayne Fergusen is the President and Show Chair of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show which is steeped in history. Dating back to the 1920’s this prestigious show was started by an individual from one of America’s richest and most famous families, the Rockefellers. Listen to our show this week as Wayne talks about how he discovered the memorabilia that led him to revive this historical dog show. Since this show happens only every 5 years we are going to be covering it every couple of months or so to bring you updates in anticipation of the big event on October 7, 2010…and we will be there also! Bringing Animals Out of Crisis and into Care!

Nicole Forsyth CEO of United Animal Nations joins us from Sacramento California to talk about thier efforts in helping to save animals of all types around the country. This week Dr. Patrick talks about the Pet sales ban in West Hollywood that prohibits the sale of pets in Pet Stores in that area. Helping to curb the spread of “Puppy Mill” dogs that are often not well taken care of not to mention sick which can end up costing the new owners hundreds if not thousands of dollars to take care of in addition to the heartbreak of watching the animal suffer and in many cases die or have to be euthanized. Perhaps this type of legislation will be sweeping the country before you know it forcing people to seek out rescue animals as well as reputable breeders for a happy healthy new family member.

Well once again with the technical switchboard issues. Not to worry! Everyone was nice enough to call back in for a special taping of the segments and Voila we have a great show! As we move forward we are going to be moving the switchboard from New York to Ohio to give us complete control over some of the issues that may pop up during a show! We’ll still be live, able to better handle things as they arise! Anyway…on with the show!

New AKC Breed for the National Dog Show 2009

Patricia Princehouse, top breeder of the Pyrenean Shepherd or “Pyr shep” as they are sometimes called, joined us to talk about this breed that originates from the highlands of France. She discussed the history and the requirements of owning one of these small to midsized dogs. The AKC has very specific requirements for adding new breeds to the show ring and Patricia knows them all. Patricia teaches genetics and biology at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio so is truly and expert in the field of breeding these dogs and helping others introduce new breeds. She is a highly sought after expert in the field of dog breeding and she tells us just what it takes! Denise Fleck - Pet First Aid Expert!

Denise and I have been freinds for just about a year now and I think the reason for that is we share a common interest to help everyone’s pets safe and happy (not to mention our own)! Darlene Arden is a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant who is the “Go To ” person for various media networks and reporters around the country. She is also a highly respected author and joins us to talk about her latest book “Rover Get Off Her Leg! Pet Etiquette for the Dog Who Pees on Your Rug, Steals the Pot Roast, and Poops in Improper Places!” We had a great time talking to Darlene about some of the “fun” of being a dog owner including the various quirks that our dogs can have. This was not your normal conversation about dogs and we had some good laughs during the discussion, but the serious topics of patience while training, “Thunder phobia,” and what to do about an eavesdropping (or just plain Staring) dog during your intimate love making moments lead us to some interesting conclusions. Not only does Darlene give us a lot of information in the book she also keeps it light with anecdotes about each situation throughout. I definitely recommend this book for anyone owning a dog. I just got into it and have already learned more about how to read “Butch’s” signals better.

"The Second Chance They Deserve!"

Kip Altstaetter of the Houston Boxer Rescue joined us forÂ our rescue segment. Kip was easy to talk to and was more than happy toÂ tell us about the great work this young organization has been doing over the last two years. For the love of the Boxer breed and animals in general, they will rescue as many as they can and see to it that they get a second chance. This is a great breed and maybe someday Butch will need a body guard!

Dr. Patrick joined us to talk about the problems they have been having with Coyotes in Hollywood! Yes that’s right Hollywood California! They are in other parts of the country also like Chicago and the outlying areas. I recently learned this while visiting my good friend Dave Deremer and his family. Coyotes need to be taken seriously, as they can snatch your pet from you in broad daylight. Dr. Patrick talks about how to take precautions and Jessica Simpson’s recent sad experience with her dog “Daisy.”Â
