“FISH TANK KINGS” is Nat Geo Wild’s latest interesting series about a company called “Living Color” based out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida that actually builds custom fish tanks around the country. Well, they don’t actually build them all the way ”AROUND THE COUNTRY.” There are already fish tanks around the country they’re called “OCEANS!” This show has been getting a lot of Buzz the last few weeks and Jeff has Jose Blanko stopping by to talk about some of the work they have been doing getting ready for this. One interesting project was the Florida Marlins baseball team Aquarium built right into the backstop behind home plate….yes the backstop! Listen in as Jeff finds out about some of the other interesting projects they have done and how to get young people started in the hobby of fish aquariums. Also, Jeff talks in depth about the voluntary Diamond Pet Food Recall, the brands affected and gives you some tips on how to stay safe and actually kill salmonella bacteria that may be in your and your pet’s food.

Getting back into the swing of things and catching up with all of the My Buddy Butch regulars Jeff talks with Certified Animal Behavior consultant Darlene Arden. Darlene’s latest book ” The Complete Cat’s Meow” has won another award and rightly so. YEARS of research and personal experience went into the writing of this book on the care of Felines of all ages, and Darlene shares with us some of the information to help you help your cat. Darlene stays with Jeff the entire hour and they trade opinions on the $60,000 custoday battle going on for a dog between a divorced couple…It’s a real “He said She said” for the pet world! Hour 2 – Dr. Ernie Ward  “America’s Pet Advocate” joins Jeff to talk about the dangers of obesity, how to perform a physical examination, dealing with behavioral issues, answering pet owner’s questions about surgery or how to provide better care for aging pets. He has been featured on the Today Show, several shows on Animal Planet, NBC Nightly News, Nightline, CNN and has appeared numerous times on the Rachael Ray Show since 2007.  Dr. Ernie discusses new Dog and Cat Food formulas being introduced by Iams for “Senior- Plus” pets. Hour 1 – Jeff continues the discussion with Certified Animal Behavior Consultant and award winning author Darlene Arden. Last time she talked about how to choose a vet for your pet. This time we talk about Pet Insurance and alternative methods of funding a pet’s health care. Can you believe it! We have enough trouble in this country with human health care and now we are even talking about pet health care! Did you get that new pet for Christmas? Do you know someone that did? Jeff gives a few tips on learning more about taking care of that pet. Do you have some New Year Resolutions? Ever heard of Wishbomb.com? It’s a goal setting web site that is actually a community of people that help support each other to reach their goals! Jeff’s New Year Resolution for Butch.

Dr. Patrick mahaney joins Jeff to talk about “Mutt Health.” Jeff has discussed that Mutts or mixed breed Dogs can be healthier than a pure bred dog because they are pulling from a larger gene pool than a pure bred…well this might not be entirely true! Jeff also talks about some of the things coming up in 2012…Remember “Daniel” The Beagle Mix that survived being “gassed” in Alabama? Well the little fella has found a home in New Jersey after surviving the dog pound’s attempt at euthanizing him.

Do you know why it is important to give your pet the preventative year around? Well, Dr. Shelly Rubin tells us why and also clues us in on the other things that the preventative helps…well…prevent! Oh Yeah, by the way Dr. Shelly was also Oprah’s Vet before she moved to California to start her network OWN! Also Jeff discusses some halloween reminders about what your pets should NOT be eating. Yeah, they like to have a few “adult beverages” (Like Jeff does when mowing the lawn!) and they might talk with a southern drawal, but make no mistake, these guys are among the smartest in the country! Tom Taylor joins Jeff to talk about the show and some of their great projects…they even get the kids involved! Darlene Arden is a certified Animal Behavior Consultant, Award Winning Author, lecturer, and joins us to talk about the plight of Toy Dogs…They are NOT toys and they are NOT accessories! Dr. Partick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars in Hollywood joins us to talk about this issue that he has seen in his practice. Hurricane Irene has left more than a few rescues in bad shape and Jeff gives a run down on how you can help. News and announcements.

Carol Carprita of Woodside Pet Cemetary joins Jeff to discuss this issue and talk about how a Pet Cemetery operates (See Video Below). Carol gives some tips on what to do when you are in that situation. Darlene Arden is a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant who is the “Go To ” person for various media networks and reporters around the country. She is also a highly respected author and joins us to talk about her latest book “Rover Get Off Her Leg! Pet Etiquette for the Dog Who Pees on Your Rug, Steals the Pot Roast, and Poops in Improper Places!” We had a great time talking to Darlene about some of the “fun” of being a dog owner including the various quirks that our dogs can have. This was not your normal conversation about dogs and we had some good laughs during the discussion, but the serious topics of patience while training, “Thunder phobia,” and what to do about an eavesdropping (or just plain Staring) dog during your intimate love making moments lead us to some interesting conclusions. Not only does Darlene give us a lot of information in the book she also keeps it light with anecdotes about each situation throughout. I definitely recommend this book for anyone owning a dog. I just got into it and have already learned more about how to read “Butch’s” signals better.

"The Second Chance They Deserve!"

Kip Altstaetter of the Houston Boxer Rescue joined us for our rescue segment. Kip was easy to talk to and was more than happy to tell us about the great work this young organization has been doing over the last two years. For the love of the Boxer breed and animals in general, they will rescue as many as they can and see to it that they get a second chance. This is a great breed and maybe someday Butch will need a body guard!

Dr. Patrick joined us to talk about the problems they have been having with Coyotes in Hollywood! Yes that’s right Hollywood California! They are in other parts of the country also like Chicago and the outlying areas. I recently learned this while visiting my good friend Dave Deremer and his family. Coyotes need to be taken seriously, as they can snatch your pet from you in broad daylight. Dr. Patrick talks about how to take precautions and Jessica Simpson’s recent sad experience with her dog “Daisy.”
