RESCUE SHELTER OF THE WEEK

Rescuing in the Wilderness since 1979!

Delta Rescue in California is the largest “no-kill” care-for-life sanctuary of its kind in the world. This “Super-Sanctuary” is home to more than 1500 animals that have been abandoned in the wild and when found and brought here, they are given a great home for life. Dr. Brown, the resident veterinarian joins us to talk more about this unique facility and some of the poor animals that are found and brought in. They are doing amazing work! He recently had an impromptu blood test to check for heartworm and I discuss the results of his test and the importance of preparing for this test with your own Veterinarian! I thought dodging pet poop was part of the experience, part of the essence, and yes part of the BONDING process that makes hotels love it when we bring our pets! I don’t mean BONDING poop to the bottom of my shoes! I’m with you Hariet, if people can’t follow the rules of a hotel STAY HOME! It’s the few that make it bad for the rest of us.

CALIFORNIA PONDERING ‘ANIMAL ABUSERS REGISTRY’ – As reported in an article by Alison Stateman in LA on Time’s blog, California State representative Dean Flores introduced this bill in late February but during a time where not only the State has financial trouble but pet owners are also struggling, can it pass when it needs to be funded by tax dollars? Great idea for the registry…let’s watch this one!

FLORIDA TO ALLOW BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION - (From Pet Product news intl.)Here we go again. I’m getting really sick of talking about this… Senate Bill 1276, sponsored by Sen. Tony Hill, D-Jacksonville, allows “any local government [to place] further restrictions or additional requirements on owners of dangerous dogs.” My Buddy Butch is a very dangerous and deadly dog… to squirrels….

Have you seen “Sensation?” Do you see the dog on the logo for Westminster above? Of course you do! This is a painting of the dog Sensation who was the mascot for the Westminster Kennel Club in New York! This is a “Pointer” which is a hunting dog and a member of the “sporting” group as defined by the American Kennel Club. Columnist Joanne Anderson is a Metropolitan Dog Club “President’s Award Winner” and writer of the column “Pets, Pets, Pets” that is in a number of newspapers. She currently working to find the original grave site of “ Sensation” the actual pointer that is pictured above which they believe to be in Babylon near the Long Island, New York area. She has written more than 25 articles detailing the search which has had twists and turns that she never would have guessed when she started. Listen in as we talk about her search and if they will even hire a historical psychic to help in the search, as they are looking for a grave from the late 1800’s…very interesting. I want to keep up with this so we’ll have Joanne back and check on the progress! Check out some of Joannes articles on the Search:
