Shawn Heflick joined me to talk about one of the largest species of snake on earth that has invaded the Florida Everglades – the Burmese Python. Some of these giants can weigh up to 200 pounds and can reach 23 feet in length and are crawling through a swamp near you…if you live in the Florida everglades that is! Some are abandoned pets, others are believed to have escaped en masse after Hurrican Andrew barrelled through south Florida. These snakes are reproducing new generations pythons so listen in as Shawn talks about how they are hunting them down and what to do if you run across one of these creatures!

Denise Fleck of Sunnydogink.com joined us to talk about some safety issues and some of the work she has been doing with the Burbank Animal Shelter. In addition some very important news for people in the western states that may have issues with Rattle Snakes! Her Akita “Bonzai” was bitten by a rattler in California and lived. Seems that Denise had the inkling to start Bonzai on a rattle snake vaccine program weeks before which no doubt saved her furry friend’s life. Listen in on how you can prevent a tragedy of this type for your pet.

Jeff Dorson of the Louisiana Humane Society has been on the front line of this oil spill disaster from the beginning. A veteran of the Huricane Katrina disaster, Jeff knows first hand every day what is going on in Louisiana. Even though the flow has been stopped, let’s not forget that we still do not know the extent of the damage done yet and the animal rescue causes in the Gulf will continue to need our help. Please think of them if you are considering donating to a worthy cause.

Rick Smith of the Great Lakes Emergency Response Team k-9 joined us to discuss some of the work they do when called out on a mission. He talks about the training of the dogs and types of emergencies that they get called on. They are a missing

I spoke with Gil Pimentel, VP of programming for the National Geographic Channel and Producer of the new summer series “World’s Deadliest!” I am personally amazed when I watch just about anything on National Geographic Channel and Gil takes some time to visit with us and talk about the great footage that is being shown in this series. Animals from Africa to Alaska are captured on film in this TV series doing what they do best – “SURVIVING” in the Wild. I highly recommend this series on the NATGEO Wild Channel and it’s running Monday night at 10pm through August 15th!

Our Friends at the HALLMARK Channel have done it again! The movie “YOU LUCKY DOG.” Starring Harry Hamlin and Natasha Henstridge premiers on Saturday June 26th and is a “Don’t Miss” event! The story is about a Border Collie “Lucky” who is rescued from a shelter and …. well, I won’t tell you the rest but you will Love it! Joyce Geier, a long time trainer of herding dogs joins us this week to talk about the Border Collie and herding dogs and a Champion competitor of National Competitions. I would say she knows just about everything there is to know about herding dogs and I can’t wait to have her back!

Jeff Dorson of the Louisiana Humane Society is no stranger to helping animals. Now they are working on the latest disaster to hit the New Orleans area, The Gulf Oil Spill. In fact, Jeff was also heavily involved with the Hurricane Katrina disaster that hit New Orleans and flooded the gulf states. They still have animals that they are trying to adopt that they saved from Katrina. They really need help there as they try to save as many birds and animals as they can in this difficult situation. THey are also teaming up with other orgs in the area such as the Clear Water Sanctuary in Bush Louisiana. Please try and help them if you can and see their Web Site for information on adopting one of the older dogs that they have from Katrina. This would be a big help.
