Let your dog be your personal health trainer!

I have to admit when I first saw another health book with a dog on the cover I thought, Ok…another “It’s great to jog or walk with your dog” book. As I began to read through some of the pages and learned more about Dr. Dawn Marcus I was hit with something so much more and literally drawn into the book. Dr. Marcus not only says that there are great benefits to walking or jogging with your dog but she actually tells you WHY from a medical standpoint. Dr. Marcus, being a board certified neurologist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has experienced the success of the methodology that she teaches us in her book “Fit As Fido!” Each section begins with statements or questions from REAL PEOPLE that she introduces throughout the book. Taking it one step further she wants our dogs to be our “personal trainer!” After the discussion we had on the show…Well, I’m in! I’m going to let Butch be my personal trainer and be reporting my progress on it! Dr. Marcus has even included information, great references, and schedules as well as a place on her web site where you can download a walking log and exercise diary!

A great park system working for and with their community!

Anne-Mary McGrath joined us to talk about the work they have been doing for the community in Springfield Missouri. They have developed a couple of Dog Parks over the last few years that have been models for others to follow. The community loves them and uses them regularly and with the enrollement increasing they opened another one! They host great functions there such as a Dachshund Dash and Dog fest this month and I’m sure they will be having more this fall Listen to how they did it and where you can contact them to start your own “Dog Park” in your city!
