This week – Hour 1 – National Geographic’s award winning series Alaska State Troopers is now in it’s third season. Dan Stern, writer and executive producer of the series joins Jeff to talk about what it is like spending a whole year in Alaska to film the series and some of the things that they had to deal with. Personally, Jeff doesn’t know if he could handle the “midnight sun” in Alaska in the summer time! They also talk about some of the upcoming episodes. Dr. Shelly Rubin is past president of the American Heartworm Society and used to be Oprah’s choice for a veterinarian before she moved to California to run her network. He stops by to talk a bit about flea, tick, heartworm preventatives and remedies. After a recent tv news report by Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, that over-the-counter remedies have caused serious illness and death to some pets, Jeff wants to dig into this possibility with Dr. Rubin.
Hour 2
Vickie Fisher is the President of The International Cat Association and she joins Jeff to talk about their involvement in the “Meet The Breeds” show at the Javits Center in New York City in November. This is a great function for the whole family because there are not only cats but the AKC is also involved and so there are many breeds of dogs exhibited also! Dogs and Cats under the same roof is sure to be and exciting time and Vickie tell us about it! Big Cat Week Starts on December 11th on Nat Geo Wild. This week  – Neurologist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh Dr. Dawn Marcus is back with us to talk about the release of her new book “The Power of Wagging Tails.” Therapy dogs are doing unbelievable work helping people cope with various ailments and now Dr. Marcus is doing a study of the use of therapy dogs in waiting rooms. She also talks about how your dog could possibly make a great therapy dog. Dr. Patrick Mahaney is with us for the 4th part of the series about his visit to Peru…exotic animals a three toed sloth. Dr. Marcus also hangs around to talk about how exposing your baby to pets can help them avoid allergies later in life. She has been involved with many studies regarding this. Buck a new film about the REAL Horse Whisperer is out this weekend. Pets are getting sick from Cicada Ingestion, and Dogs are dying of Parvovirus in our news segment.

Hour 2

Dana Humphrey of Whitegate PR in New York and San Diego is with us to talk about the first “National Dog Party Day” simultaneously being held in both cities on June 24th. This will be benefiting 2 great familiar rescue organizations so be sure to check it out if you are in the area or on-line at Dogpartyday.com. Dr. Kim Bloomer of ACAN and Animal Talk Naturally joins us to talk about the wildfires going on in Arizona and Albuquerque New Mexico which is where she is located. Bad respiratory problems in Young and old alike not to mention the pets. Also Sunburn causes cancer and there was a release from the FDA this past week that tells us we have not been getting the proper protection from the sunscreen we have been purchasing. Celebrating our First Anniversary!

When I first introduced the idea in a meeting almost 2 years ago we all thought it was a good idea, but seriously, how could we even develop a show about pets when there are so many others doing it so well for so long? Well, after many discussions and meetings about the My Buddy Butch Brand we decided to move forward with the show giving it one year to see if we could raise enough interest on a regional basis to continue. Much to our suprise and delight within a 3 month period, the enormous response from coast to coast (and in many countries) that we received, told us that we were a needed and welcomed addition to the “pet broadcasting” community. Trying to help as many pets and people as we could in addition to entertaining them with my “learning curve” of taking care of Butch has proven to be a worthwhile experience for all who have been involved. Most importantly the quickly growing list of fans and subscribers of the show (and Butch of course) have spoken and have learned much about themselves as pet owners and about taking care of their pet just a little better. We have had more than a few animal adoptions take place because of our “Pet Rescue of the Week” segment and have relayed important information on our “Vet Topic of the Week” segment. All I can say is “Thank You” to all that have helped us, been a guest on the show, or adopted an animal from a rescue org. We love doing the show and although we sometimes have our problems, try to get the info out to you each week! All the best to each and every one of you and “stay tuned” as we will be introducing additional My Buddy Butch material to you in the next year, some of which will be coming to a TV near you!

Author Sharon Sakson

Sharon Sakson joined us briefly, but unfortunately we were not able to talk with her as long as we would have liked. With nasty storms rolling through New Jersey Sharon was experiencing some power problems. We did however have a chance to talk to her a little later in the show giving us a taste of her book Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of DogsI’m am currently reading this book and loving every page. I believe that this will be my first review on the site. It is OUTSTANDING and Sharon has set the bar for aspiring writers like myself with this moving “tale!” Sharon will be joining us again next week to finish our discussion on this great book!

Dr. Kim Bloomer of “Animal Talk Naturally” joined us this week to expand on our “Recipe” show from last week. Dr. Kim is a Veterinary Naturopath and most definitely a foremost expert on feeding your pet a raw diet. Dr. Kim has been a friend of My Buddy Butch since we aired our first few shows contacting us to welcome us to the “family.”  She is a great lady that loves her animals and wants the best for them so she knows first hand the great results she sees from feeding a “raw diet” to your pet. Listen in to hear some tid bits about how to prepare a raw meal and don’t forget to check out Dr. Kim’s web site for more information on feeding raw! (Not in the raw!) Pet Expert Charlotte Reed

As I began my journey last year of having the book released and starting the radio show, I had no idea of the things I would be doing or the people I would be meeting. In the first few years of having Butch I had met so many nice people and pet owners that I had a pretty good feeling about the direction I was headed, but being a music producer I was a bit aprehensive based on my experience with people in “the business.” Imagine my pleasant suprise last fall when I recieved a phone call from Charlotte Reed effectively welcoming me into the fold. Charlotte put together the Pet Writer’s Conference in New York that I had signed up for and was calling me to say “Hi” and let me know that if I had any questions not to hesitate to let her know! After meeting her las February I learned that she is as delightful in person as she is on the air! Charlotte is a Pet Expert, an author (Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette), one of the co-founders of the Metropolitan Dog Club of New York, and an expert on pet products of all kinds! Listen in on our conversation about her many years of experience with pets, pet products and her current gig as the spokesperson for Arm & Hammer Pet Products!

Over the years I have spent much time in Florida visiting relatives and then my parents as they wintered there from Ohio. I got to know Miami and especially the Ft. Lauderdale are very well and enjoyed every bit of it! I love Florida and as I get older hope to make that the winter location for MBB Radio! OK, enough of my commentary…Sara Schlossman of Sun Shine Airedalers of Florida was kind enough to join us from sunny Florida…well it was storming during our chat…but still Florida none-the-less! In Florida and want an Airedale? …Then you have to check out our conversation about the breed and how you can adopt from Sara and this great Airedale organization!

As you know by reading my book, I have done a lot of studying on how to take the best care of Butch possible. It never fails that Dr. Donna teaches me something new almost every week. She loves our pets almost as much as we do and has devoted her life to the best care possible for them. Dr. Donna Spector helps me through a problem that Butch has had with his annual shots. Parvo, Distemper shots seem to cause Butch some problems. Is he allergic to the shots? Is your pet allergic to shots? Listen to Dr. Donna walk me through the need for these shots and help me understand the dosages, and some testing that can be done to see if he even needs them annually… not to mention what I can do if we find that Butch is actually allergic to the shots and other important information!
