Also Dr. Donna Spector consulting Veterinarian joins Jeff to talk about how to change your aging pet’s food. Should you wait until a certain age? Should you automatically change your pet’s food? Hour 2 - Nat Geo Wild has a new show titled “Pilly Undercover” about the animal cruelty cases going on in Philadelphia. You can ride along with undercover police embeded with THe Philly SPCA to see how they are dealing with the problem. George Bengal is the Chief Investigator and he joins Jeff to discuss. Dr. Frank McMillin of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is back and he talks about puppy mills and a recent law suite filed in New York by the owner of a dog that she bought from a pet store. Hour 1 – Pamela Keogh is a NY Times Best Selling Author and she joins Jeff to talk about her new book “Are you a Jackie or a Marilyn?” Talking of course about the famous Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy. Pamela relays to women in this book the research that she has done on both of these fantastic women on the timeless lessons on Love, Power and Style that they both possessed. Compare and contrast their style and you can see which one you most closely take after…you may be surprised! Bet you can’t tell what kind of pets they had…Pamela talks all about it! Also, some highlights from the National Dog Show Presented by Purina Press conference with David Frei, Mary Carrillo, and John O’Hurley who are getting ready for this year’s even on Thanksgiving Day…and of course a few News stories…did you know that it is also National Model Railroad Month!

Hour 2 – Debrah Larocque of THREEDOGZLLC.com talks with Jeff about her on-line store which sells unique pet products and being this time of year, everyone is looking for gifts and fun items to purchase. She talks abit about how she got started and some of the new items that she is introducing. Dr. Kim Bloomer stops by for the Vet segment of the week to talk in more detail about the recent national news stories about Salmonella. Hour 1-National Geographic is introducing a new web site for kids and reptile expert and host of NatGeo Wild’s “Dangerous Encounters” Brady Barr joins Jeff to talk about it. A fun site for kids, which is a great idea to keep them busy over the holidays, there are hours of fun that can be had here! A game that they can play for free with interactive video and other fun items. Best of all there is a section for parents to help keep tabs on the game their children are playing. It’s National Geographic so you know it’s a good site! Jeff also gives a complete run down on the six new breeds that will make their TV debut on the National Dog Show presented by Purina on NBC on Thanksgiving Day. Jeff talks about the specific breeds and gives summary descriptions on each.This is the fourth year that Jeff had covered the event so he also talks a bit out the procedures that the AKC has in place to register new breed standards and a little bit about how a dog show competition is defined.

Hour 2

Author Alison Pace who is a great friend of the My Buddy Butch Show stops buy to talk about her great news that her book “Pug Hill” was released to mass market paperback. She’ll explain what that means and talk about the other outstanding books that she has written. If you are interested in writing you have to read one of Alison’s books…she teaches writing in New York so she knows more than a little bit about writing! Gary Nice joins Jeff from the Canine Cancer Foundation in Phoenix. They have chapters around the country and are doing great work. Unless you have lost a pet to cancer or have lost a pet for any reason you will understand what this research means to many people. Not only that but the same cancers that attack us humans also attack dogs and the research being done benefits humans as much as it does dogs! Dogs rescue humans yet again….News and announcements – Report from an ABC-TV affiliate in Cleveland Ohio reports that spot on flea/tick preventative are causing serious illnesses and even death to pets in some cases. Reports from the EPA since 2009 prompted an investigation and a warning in 2010. Reminder – feed your pets pet food NOT human food or table scraps around the upcoming holidays.

RESCUE SHELTER OF THE WEEK

Rescuing in the Wilderness since 1979!

Delta Rescue in California is the largest “no-kill” care-for-life sanctuary of its kind in the world. This “Super-Sanctuary” is home to more than 1500 animals that have been abandoned in the wild and when found and brought here, they are given a great home for life. Dr. Brown, the resident veterinarian joins us to talk more about this unique facility and some of the poor animals that are found and brought in. They are doing amazing work! Sam Memmolo is a name that auto buffs around the country have known well for years. Sam was the Executive producer and host of “Two Guys Garage” on the Speed Network and is the Host of “Sam’s Garage Radio” which airs weekly on WGKA in Atlanta every Saturday morning at 11am. Sam have a heart for animals and are not shy about helping out fostering their share of rescues in their home. Being a celebrity Sam does what he can to help the cause by hosting events like the upcoming Auto/Cycle/Dog show that he has been hosting for years in Atlanta. It is a family function with many vehicles too see and also dogs to pet! Listen in as Sam talks about the show which will be April 17th this year.

Bichons and Buddies Rescue from LosAngeles California

Jeanine of Bichons and Buddies joined us this week from Los Angeles to talk about their rescue operation that specializes in the rescue of smaller dogs. Now, they try not to turn away any dogs but like most shelters they have limited space and so they try to maximize that space by sheltering dogs under 25 pounds. They have many dogs that are discarded “fashion statements” which is sad. This is why we always try to help teach people that pets are a LIFETIME commitment to be taken seriously and cannot be discarded because they soiled the carpet once!

Dr. Donna Spector

Dr. Donna Spector joined us again this week and I’m happy she’s back with us! Dr. Spector talks with me this week about Feline Heartworms. Now, heartworm disease is more commonly thought of as a “dog” issue but our cats can suffer from it just the same. Dr. Donna tells us the details and issues than can arise from this so if you have a cat or know someone that does you’ll want to listen in. We also discuss “Vegan” diets for our pets. With a few new “Vegan” pet foods on the market these days you really need to know what you are doing BEFORE your pet developes problems from feeding a strictly vegan diet. You know, just because you may be a vegan doesn’t mean you should force your pet to be one also! Research this issue!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti. As there are so many places that have aid stations and donation acceptance set up, it would be redundant for us to attempt such an activity. Please consider donating at a TRUSTED location such as your local Red Cross or inquire at your local radio or TV station for a good place to donate. Many service providers are making it easy to donate even by texting a message.

Well, now that our snow is starting to melt from a few days in the high 30’s the only memory I’ll have of it is a sprained back from too much shoveling! We’re not out of the woods yet as most of us here in Ohio and the Great Lake state know we could be dealing with the white stuff well into April or even May if conditions are right! I hope conditions are wrong! On with the show…

What would you do? Mine - a must see film!

Jessie Pullins did not expect to leave his long time friend and companion behind as he evacuated his large family in two vehicles to Houston as the water rose in New Orleans. 2 vehicles packed with too many people setting out on a 75 mile drive which took 12 hours to Houston would be too much for the large black lab. Leaving plenty of food and water for “JJ” Jessie knew he would return in 2 or 3 days to get JJ and reunite him with the family. It was not to be as authorities would not let anyone back in to their homes much less the city for months. Jessie discusses the heartwrenching ordeal he went through to find JJ and the legal issues that appeared during his quest.

Vet to the Stars!

This week Dr. Patrick talks to us about burns that your pet can recieve from many different locations. Butch has a tendancy to want to walk under my truck in the garage right after we get out. The exhaust pipe and radiator and surrounding metal is still scalding HOT. Now my truck rides pretty high and Butch can almost stand up underneath but if he does it in the wrong place he will cook the hair and skin where he touches the hot metal. Dr.Â Helen Fazio and I met in New York during the weekend that I was covering the Westminster Dog Show. She was delightful to talk to then and equally delightful on the air. She shared with us a few issues to consider when traveling with your pet around the USA as well as to other countries. PET SHELTER OF THE WEEK

Bostons are the best! Look into adopting one of these great dogs!

Karen Toupard was kind enough to join us to talk about the BT rescue of Greater Houston in Texas. THey are a responsible organization have many great dogs to adopt. Boston terriers have been near and dear to me since I was a kid and I can say that they are a great breed and will add quality to anyone’s life that might adopt one. Please research the breed before adopting and contact the rescue group with any questions! We highly recommend adopting. Butch insists that we have a BT rescue on every couple of months or so!Â

My Buddy Butch is Twitterless!

Hi everyone. We have been getting literally hundreds of people connecting with us over the last week or so on twitter and we can’t thank you enough for joining us. But as you may or may not know Twitter has been experiencing problems with their site. Thus, I cannot get to our Twitter Â home page or our profile to answer your messages, read your tweets, or tweet during the show!

I have notified Twitter of the problem and they are working on it, so as soon as I can get back to my page I will try to answer all of your messages. I don’t want you to think that we are ignoring you. Butch is getting nervous because he can’t tweet so he follows me around and barks in sentences with only 140 characters. I’m still trying to figure out how he does it!
