 Hour 1-National Geographic is introducing a new web site for kids and reptile expert and host of NatGeo Wild’s “Dangerous Encounters” Brady Barr joins Jeff to talk about it. A fun site for kids, which is a great idea to keep them busy over the holidays, there are hours of fun that can be had here! A game that they can play for free with interactive video and other fun items. Best of all there is a section for parents to help keep tabs on the game their children are playing. It’s National Geographic so you know it’s a good site! Jeff also gives a complete run down on the six new breeds that will make their TV debut on the National Dog Show presented by Purina on NBC on Thanksgiving Day. Jeff talks about the specific breeds and gives summary descriptions on each.This is the fourth year that Jeff had covered the event so he also talks a bit out the procedures that the AKC has in place to register new breed standards and a little bit about how a dog show competition is defined.

Hour 2

Author Alison Pace who is a great friend of the My Buddy Butch Show stops buy to talk about her great news that her book “Pug Hill” was released to mass market paperback. She’ll explain what that means and talk about the other outstanding books that she has written. If you are interested in writing you have to read one of Alison’s books…she teaches writing in New York so she knows more than a little bit about writing! Gary Nice joins Jeff from the Canine Cancer Foundation in Phoenix. They have chapters around the country and are doing great work. Unless you have lost a pet to cancer or have lost a pet for any reason you will understand what this research means to many people. Not only that but the same cancers that attack us humans also attack dogs and the research being done benefits humans as much as it does dogs! Dogs rescue humans yet again….News and announcements – Report from an ABC-TV affiliate in Cleveland Ohio reports that spot on flea/tick preventative are causing serious illnesses and even death to pets in some cases. Reports from the EPA since 2009 prompted an investigation and a warning in 2010. Reminder – feed your pets pet food NOT human food or table scraps around the upcoming holidays.

Great discussion on this topic.   Major airline carriers have raised prices on pet flight - one has actually raised its rate to $250 ONE WAY! It’s clear they don’t want people taking pets on planes. Fatality rate among pets in flight has risen drastically over the last two years.

This week  – Shane Reynold – TV personality, writer, producer, camera man, and all around adventurer joins us to talk about his new series“Shane Untamed” on National Geographic’s NAT GEO WILD channel.

 He has travel the corners of the earth to put together a great episodic documentary. He’s out to experience a world of wild animals and wild spaces that most of us only dream of seeing and, along the way, explore the people and cultures that call these incredible, and often remote, places home.  Animal Control officers are ticketing owners of “vicious dogs” in cities around the country including Pit Bulls, and one of the “political” talk show hosts misinterpreted the San Francisco law banning Pet Sales in the City. We are also joined by “Frosting Fran” of the K9 Cakery and she will talk about baking for dogs and some of the items they have to offer in addition to the National Dog Party Day!  After the tornados, Joplin Mo. Humane Society needs some help with rescued animals. Are you getting married with your pet in the wedding party, well you have to listen to this show!

In the spirit of keeping our summer reading conversation going author Alison Pace joins us to talk about her new novel “A Pug’s Tale” which was released this month. Alison has been a friend of the show for a couple of years when her previous book “City Dog ” was released. Both Enjoyable reads for this summer! Karen Everhardt is the Executive director of Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue and Retirement facility in Kansas. She joins us to talk about how this wonderful facility started and what it takes to keep and equine rescue and sanctuary going on a daily basis. Babesiosis… have you heard of this? Well it’s just one more of the infectious gifts that ticks can transmit to YOU AND YOUR PET! Dianne Sawyer reported on this on ABC News and Jeff takes a look at this disease that can actually be fatal for up to 20% of the people who catch this!

The last time Dr. Kim Bloomer was with us, she was talking about her Neo Mastiff  “Shadrak” and some of the difficulties he was having. She recognized that he was in his last days. Sadly, the very next day Shadrak passed away and Dr. Kim is here to talk about what she did to make his last moments on earth more comfortable and how she is handling the loss. All of our pets will die someday. It’s a fact of life that we don’t like to think about but eventually…

The New Series on National Geographic Channel – “Ice Pilots” every Friday evening at 10pm Eastern and Pacific. Mikey McBrian is General manager of Buffalo Airlines in the Northwest Territory of Canada and they fly crucial supplies into an area twicw the size of Texas to a population of 40,000 people! Dr. Patrick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars checks in to talk about an injury to a horse that happened at the Kentucky Derby and give us a preview of our new series about his trip to Peru to perform volunteerVeterinary work. Don’t forget today is the Preakness in Baltimore MD. Race coverage is on NBC Sports at 4:30pm Eastern coast to coast. GO Animal Kingdom!

I had the pleasure of speaking to Pat Callahan, the National Director of Development and Marketing for this outstanding organization! Canine Companions for Independence is celebrating 35 years of helping dogs help people. Pat joins us to talk about the breed selection, the process of training that the dogs go through, and gives examples of some of the situations where they are needed to help humans in daily life. We look forward to talking with Pat again in the future to let us know what is happening with them and if we can help. They have many different ways we can all help and I can’t think of a more worthy cause so check out the web site!

I spoke with Gil Pimentel, VP of programming for the National Geographic Channel and Producer of the new summer series “World’s Deadliest!” I am personally amazed when I watch just about anything on National Geographic Channel and Gil takes some time to visit with us and talk about the great footage that is being shown in this series. Animals from Africa to Alaska are captured on film in this TV series doing what they do best – “SURVIVING” in the Wild. I highly recommend this series on the NATGEO Wild Channel and it’s running Monday night at 10pm through August 15th!
