“FISH TANK KINGS” is Nat Geo Wild’s latest interesting series about a company called “Living Color” based out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida that actually builds custom fish tanks around the country. Well, they don’t actually build them all the way ”AROUND THE COUNTRY.” There are already fish tanks around the country they’re called “OCEANS!” This show has been getting a lot of Buzz the last few weeks and Jeff has Jose Blanko stopping by to talk about some of the work they have been doing getting ready for this. One interesting project was the Florida Marlins baseball team Aquarium built right into the backstop behind home plate….yes the backstop! Listen in as Jeff finds out about some of the other interesting projects they have done and how to get young people started in the hobby of fish aquariums. Also, Jeff talks in depth about the voluntary Diamond Pet Food Recall, the brands affected and gives you some tips on how to stay safe and actually kill salmonella bacteria that may be in your and your pet’s food.

YEARS of research and personal experience went into the writing of this book on the care of Felines of all ages, and Darlene shares with us some of the information to help you help your cat. Darlene stays with Jeff the entire hour and they trade opinions on the $60,000 custoday battle going on for a dog between a divorced couple…It’s a real “He said She said” for the pet world! I had the opportunity to speak with Marine Biologist Rick Rosenthal today about his work filming the Blue Fin Tuna. Now, everyone that is into wildlife knows that National Geographic is second to none when it comes to bringing interesting wildlife documentaries to the screen. This is no exception and Rick, who did the actual filming of these HUGE animals and has worked on other shows such as “Blue Planet” will join me on the My Buddy Butch Show next week to talk about his experiences. Didyou know that these fish can reach 10 feet in length and weigh in at 1500 pounds? Incredible! Did you also know that like so many other species in the world today their numbers are dwindling very fast? We need to educate the public (and governments) about this so we can save these great creatures from extinction. Hour 1 – The new series America the Wild with Casey Anderson, premiered Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD. It’s now on Mondays at 9pm and Casey stops by to talk with Jeff  about how he gets up close to lizards, vultures, grizzly bears, rattlesnakes and other elusive and endangered species. From the Arctic cold to the scorching Grand Canyon desert, Casey goes to learn how these animals adapt and survive in their sometimes brutal and unforgiving ecosystems. It’s just the next “job” of this adventurer and his wingman to a 900-pound grizzly bear best friend named Brutus. Jeff discusses his trip to Ohio State University Center of Veterinary Medicine to get a diagnosis and treatment for the seizures that Butch started having in January. Late stage seizures like the ones he has been having are not good and are generally caused by one of three things, a lesion on his skull from hitting his head, idiopathic epilepsy, or a brain tumor. As none of these are desirable for any pet, epilepsy is treatable and pets can live normal happy lives for many years. Listen in for the results.

Hour 2 – California’s Game Wardens are back for a second season of Wild Justice on the National Geographic Channel Sunday at 10pm ET/PT— and they’re goal is to better explain the difference between hunters and poachers. Patrick Foy is a Game Warden at the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) stationed in Sacramento and he joins Jeff to discuss how he goes on regular patrol for game in season in the Sacramento region such as deer, waterfowl, doves, salmon, sturgeon, and many others.  Jeff discusses that fact that although Butch came from a decent lineage he still has genetic disorders. His newly found brain tumor may or may not be a result of this. Now, how this relates to the poor breeding of dogs that are held captive in many puppy mills around the countryis obvious. You should do as much research as you possibly can before buying a purebred puppy. Rely on reputable breeders and breed rescue groups for your information on a specific breed or you can easily end up with a heartbreaking situation where a puppy only lives a few years then develops a life ending situation. The Chicken Jerky fight continues and it could be tied to 3 major brands, listen in to the news and announcements for more info. Jeff makes Butch’s Jerky from meat purchased at his local grocierie store…this is the only way to be sure your pet is getting safe jerky…and it’s so easy to do there is no reason not to do it yourself.

This week – Hour 1 – National Geographic’s award winning series Alaska State Troopers is now in it’s third season. Dan Stern, writer and executive producer of the series joins Jeff to talk about what it is like spending a whole year in Alaska to film the series and some of the things that they had to deal with. Personally, Jeff doesn’t know if he could handle the “midnight sun” in Alaska in the summer time! They also talk about some of the upcoming episodes. Dr. Shelly Rubin is past president of the American Heartworm Society and used to be Oprah’s choice for a veterinarian before she moved to California to run her network. He stops by to talk a bit about flea, tick, heartworm preventatives and remedies. After a recent tv news report by Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, that over-the-counter remedies have caused serious illness and death to some pets, Jeff wants to dig into this possibility with Dr. Rubin.
Hour 2
Vickie Fisher is the President of The International Cat Association and she joins Jeff to talk about their involvement in the “Meet The Breeds” show at the Javits Center in New York City in November. This is a great function for the whole family because there are not only cats but the AKC is also involved and so there are many breeds of dogs exhibited also! Dogs and Cats under the same roof is sure to be and exciting time and Vickie tell us about it! Big Cat Week Starts on December 11th on Nat Geo Wild.  Hour 1-National Geographic is introducing a new web site for kids and reptile expert and host of NatGeo Wild’s “Dangerous Encounters” Brady Barr joins Jeff to talk about it. A fun site for kids, which is a great idea to keep them busy over the holidays, there are hours of fun that can be had here! A game that they can play for free with interactive video and other fun items. Best of all there is a section for parents to help keep tabs on the game their children are playing. It’s National Geographic so you know it’s a good site! Jeff also gives a complete run down on the six new breeds that will make their TV debut on the National Dog Show presented by Purina on NBC on Thanksgiving Day. Jeff talks about the specific breeds and gives summary descriptions on each.This is the fourth year that Jeff had covered the event so he also talks a bit out the procedures that the AKC has in place to register new breed standards and a little bit about how a dog show competition is defined.

Author Alison Pace who is a great friend of the My Buddy Butch Show stops buy to talk about her great news that her book “Pug Hill” was released to mass market paperback. She’ll explain what that means and talk about the other outstanding books that she has written. If you are interested in writing you have to read one of Alison’s books…she teaches writing in New York so she knows more than a little bit about writing! Gary Nice joins Jeff from the Canine Cancer Foundation in Phoenix. They have chapters around the country and are doing great work. Unless you have lost a pet to cancer or have lost a pet for any reason you will understand what this research means to many people. Not only that but the same cancers that attack us humans also attack dogs and the research being done benefits humans as much as it does dogs! Dogs rescue humans yet again….News and announcements – Report from an ABC-TV affiliate in Cleveland Ohio reports that spot on flea/tick preventative are causing serious illnesses and even death to pets in some cases. Reports from the EPA since 2009 prompted an investigation and a warning in 2010. Reminder – feed your pets pet food NOT human food or table scraps around the upcoming holidays.

Jeff is joined by Renaissance man and author Reese Palley, to talk about his new book “THE ANSWER: Why Only Inherently Safe Mini Nuclear Power Plants Can Save Our World,” he argues that the consumption of fossil fuels is unsustainable and current attempts to restrict carbon dioxide (CO2) production do not go far enough to preserve our way of life. Are you still afraid of Pit-Bulls and the bully breeds of dogs? Well get ready for National Pit Bull Awareness Day coming up next week Micaela Myers of Stubbydog.org joins Jeff for the Rescue of the Week Segment and talks about this 5th annual event that helps dispel some of the bad myths about this breed and encourages people to visit a local shelter or rescue and hug a pit-bull.

Hour2: Ron Phillips is the Vice President of Legislative and Public Affairs for the Animal Health Institute and he joins Jeff to talk about what it is they do and what they are doing to insure that animals of all kinds are healthy and stay healthy! They have many programs that most people do not even know about that they are monitoring every day to make sure that the medications being used on our pets and feed animals is safe and what the government is doing to regulate the industry. Dr. Kim Bloomer of the American Council of Animal Naturopathy joins Jeff to talk about her new Great Dane Puppy “Meshack” and the new things that she had to buy to get ready for this new LARGE bundle of joy. Having lost their Neo Mastiff “Shadrack” last Spring, Dr. Kim and her husband already had a HUGE breed dog and know how to take care of one and what to expect. Yeah, they like to have a few “adult beverages” (Like Jeff does when mowing the lawn!) and they might talk with a southern drawal, but make no mistake, these guys are among the smartest in the country! Tom Taylor joins Jeff to talk about the show and some of their great projects…they even get the kids involved! Darlene Arden is a certified Animal Behavior Consultant, Award Winning Author, lecturer, and joins us to talk about the plight of Toy Dogs…They are NOT toys and they are NOT accessories! The last time Dr. Kim Bloomer was with us, she was talking about her Neo Mastiff  “Shadrak” and some of the difficulties he was having. She recognized that he was in his last days. Sadly, the very next day Shadrak passed away and Dr. Kim is here to talk about what she did to make his last moments on earth more comfortable and how she is handling the loss. All of our pets will die someday. It’s a fact of life that we don’t like to think about but eventually…
