David Frei has been an expert analyst and commentator for the National Dog Show presented by Purina since the beginning 9 years ago. He has participated in every aspect of Dog shows over the years and is currently the Directoer of Communications for Westminster Kennel Club in New York City. David joins us this wee to talk about the upcoming Dog Show at the Philadelphia Expo Center which will be televised on Thanksgiving day right after the Macy’s Parade on NBC!

Wayne Fergusen is the Show Chair for this historic Dog show and he is also the President of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia which is the hosting club for the National Dog Show presented by Purina. He is also the Voice of the Dog shows who announces each individual dog as it enters the ring. You’ve heard him on TV and he is with us to talk about both of these grand shows.

Wayne Fergusen is the President and Show Chair of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show which is steeped in history. Dating back to the 1920’s this prestigious show was started by an individual from one of America’s richest and most famous families, the Rockefellers. Listen to our show this week as Wayne talks about how he discovered the memorabilia that led him to revive this historical dog show. Since this show happens only every 5 years we are going to be covering it every couple of months or so to bring you updates in anticipation of the big event on October 7, 2010…and we will be there also! Joel used to be a Killer Whale trainer at Sea World and he was kind enough to join us this week to talk a little bit about his experience with these enormous sea mammels and the tragic death of a trainer at Sea world of Orlando this week. These animals are not to be taken lightly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the trainer that parished.

Bringing Animals Out of Crisis and into Care!

Nicole Forsyth CEO of United Animal Nations joins us from Sacramento California to talk about thier efforts in helping to save animals of all types around the country. Founded in 1987, United Animal Nations (UAN) focuses on bringing animals out of crisis and strengthening the bond between people and animals through a variety of programs, including emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance and education.  Learn more from my interview with Nicole on this week’s show.

 This week Dr. Patrick talks about the Pet sales ban in West Hollywood that prohibits the sale of pets in Pet Stores in that area. Helping to curb the spread of “Puppy Mill” dogs that are often not well taken care of not to mention sick which can end up costing the new owners hundreds if not thousands of dollars to take care of in addition to the heartbreak of watching the animal suffer and in many cases die or have to be euthanized. Perhaps this type of legislation will be sweeping the country before you know it forcing people to seek out rescue animals as well as reputable breeders for a happy healthy new family member.

John O'Hurley and David Frei Hosting the National Dog Show Presented by Purina

 It was great fun to talk with David and John over the last couple of weeks. They bring so much knowledge and style to the dog show each year that it was an honor to get their opinions and insight for this traditional Thanksgiving event for the My Buddy Butch Talk Show! Each year David and John fill us in on the latest happenings in the dog world and this year was no exception. Tiffany Simons was your sideline reporter for the National Dog Show

We were also joined by Tiffany Simons who did the sideline reporting for the broadcast. Tiffany has been reporting for NBC Sports so you may recognize her from The 2009 Westminster Dog Show as well as some other small events like SuperBowl XLI and XLII! Tiffany made the rounds in the benching area to cut a few vids with the owners and handlers getting their dogs ready for the ring. Tiffany shares her experience with us on the MBB Radio show and tells us her plans for future shows. We look forward to talking to her again as she will be at Westminster again in 2010!

I was able to catch up with John Miller who is VP of NBC Sports, and the man behind the National Dog Show, in the Press Room at the Philadelphia Expo Center. John shared with me the original idea and how everyone worked together to bring us this annual family tradition for the last 8 years! The National Dog Show Presented by Purina!

Dog Shows are in fact sporting events!

We also had Pam Mayes of the Alabama Pug Rescue with us who is the 2009 winner of Purina’s “Doing More For Pet’s Rescue Stories Contest.” Told us the heartbreaking story of “Faith,” a Boxer that had been neglected for weeks after being hit by a car. Rufus, the greatest Colored Bull Terrier in dog show history, will represent The National Dog Show Presented by Purina® and the Kennel Club of Philadelphia as Canine Ambassador for the annual shows this November 14 and 15.  The announcement was made by Wayne Ferguson, President of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, which hosts the National Dog Show, America’s most widely-viewed purebred competition, airing Thanksgiving Day on NBC-TV following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The only dog to win both the National Dog Show (2005) and the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (2006), Rufus has retired from the show world to work as a therapy dog, interacting with kids and adults alike at schools, hospitals, nursing homes and animal rescue leagues.  He is a Certified Therapy Dog with Therapy Dog International.”Rufus is one of our most popular champions ever,” offered Ferguson, whose club’s shows are the centerpiece of the annual cluster set for November 12-15 at the Greater Philadelphia Convention Center in Oaks/Valley Forge, PA.  “People are drawn to him.  His ongoing work as a therapy dog and his celebrity presence make him an asset.”

Harrison Forbes is the host of the nationally syndicated radio talk show “Pet Talk” and has been a dog trainer and behaviorist for over 20 years training difficult dogs from shih tzu’s, German Sheperds, Pit Bulls and everything in between.
