Sharon Sakson joined us for Part 2 of our discussion on her book Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs but this time the nasty storms rolling through our area caused the Tornado alarms to go off locally! I think htat no matter when Sharon joins us something exciting will happen!  I’m am currently reading this book and loving every page. From a spiritual standpoint as well as a bonding standpoint Sharon delves into the attachment we all have with our dogs and takes it one step further as she explains where “service dogs” came from and also the real patron saint of dogs! Each chapter I read I learn something new! I will be reviewing this book as I think it is a must read for all dog lovers! It is OUTSTANDING and Sharon has set the bar for aspiring writers like myself with this moving “tale!” Sharon has other books that I will definitely be picking up and she is also working on some new material!

Dr. Donna joins us to continue the discussion on the importance of pet nutrition. There are different things to consider whether you are cooking for your pet once or twice a week or if you plan on feeding your pet fresh meals every single day. It is a good idea to know how to feed your pet fresh meals just in case we run into another pet food recall or even if you can’t make it to the store and run out of food temporarily. Being single (and half Italian) I learned to cook many different things some of which are just not appropriate for Butch to eat. So I take heed at the advice and knowledge that Dr. Donna gives us about this topic. “There are more astronauts in the world than there are trainers with Joel Silverman’s experience!” This was the quote of the show and it’s true! Don’t think so? How many animal trainers do you know that have trained a killer whale? Well, I now know one and you can get to know him too on this week’s show. Joel is a great guy traveling the country with his dog Foster promoting his new book “What Color is Your Dog?” Joel is talking about your dogs temprement not his coat. Joel brings to light some interesting facts about how your dog behaves and how his training techniques are different from most other trainers.

Dr. Helen Fazio & Raja in Paris!Our good freind Dr. Helen Fazio joined us to catch up a bit and talk about cooking for traveling companion Raja her Shi-tzu. He is 13 years old now and she has been cooking for him for many years. She shares a recipe with us and also some other types of ingredients that she sometimes uses in foods. If you want to know how to cook for your pet, listen to those that have been doing it a long time! Helen and Raja have a great web site and she sometimes posts various recipes that you can try to cook for your pet. I like to cruise around the site to see what she has been up to. As Dr. Helen Fazio and Dr. Donna Spector both mentioned, there are many people (and I’m one) who are afraid to cook a meal for their pets. I know that I’m one of those people that thought it would be great to feed Butch the fresh food that I purchase at the grocerie store each week. But knowing that our pets need vitamins and minerals that we may not know about stops us from trying to cook a great tasty meal for them. I think that it is wise to know how to feed your pet a balanced diet and correct amount of calories in today’s day and age.  Dr. Donna Spector talks in great detail about this as it is her specialty. Once again she leaves us wanting more. As the consulting veterinarian for HALO Foods, Dr. Donna knows EXACTLY what it takes to feed your pet a balanced diet and she discusses it with us.
