When do you know it’s time to take your Cat or Dog to the Emergency room? Jeff goes over a list sent to him by Dr. Edward Cooper who is the head of the OSU Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care facility, One of the Best in the country. ABC News ran a segment last week about New Jersey and many other states cracking down on distracted drivers with pets in their laps and roaming unrestrained in the cars! Listen in to see if your state is next to levy up to $1000 per infraction for this. There are inexpensive car harnesses available at the ASPCA web site and many others including local pet stores! Also in New Jersey a lawsuit has been filed for salmonella poisoning of an 8 month old baby allegedly caused by the recalled dry dog food that we discussed a few weeks ago! Here it comes!

The story is about the Michael Vick Dog Fighting incident and now that Vick has signed a $40 Million deal, many people are seriously angry about it. Jim, a serious dog lover, gives us a little perspective on the subject. This is not something that is going to go away any time soon… Stay tuned. Cassie of “OSCAR” One Step Closer Animal Rescue in New Jersey joins us for the Rescue of the week segment to talk about Hurricane Irene and how lucky they were to get through it and some of the activities they have going on for fund raising and adoption. Heard of the United Kennel Club? This club registers breeds in all 50 states and 26 countries! Listen in to find out more about them and a great event that Jeff (and maybe Butch will be attending.

Have you ever had your pet eat your illegal (or even legal for that matter) stash of drugs? Needless to say, or maybe not so needless is that it can make your pet seriously ill if not kill them. Dr. Partick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars in Hollywood joins us to talk about this issue that he has seen in his practice. Hurricane Irene has left more than a few rescues in bad shape and Jeff gives a run down on how you can help. News and announcements.

Hour2: Have you decided what you will do with your pet’s remains when it has passed away? Carol Carprita of Woodside Pet Cemetary joins Jeff to discuss this issue and talk about how a Pet Cemetery operates (See Video Below). Pet Cemeteries are not something new that has just sprung up to take advantage of the pet industry boom…they have been around for many many years. Carol gives some tips on what to do when you are in that situation. Irene (and yes her name really is Irene…like Jeff’s mom!) of the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City New Jersey joins Jeff for the Rescue of the Week Segment to talk about Hurricane Irene last week and how they are dealing with the destruction as well as how they helped the animals. Jeff is a big supporter of this program because it can prevent many unpleasant situations including surrendering a dog to already overcrowded rescue shelters! Also Joplin Mo. Human Society has has one of the toughest times an organization like this can possibly have. We have been following the plight of Joplin since the tornado and storms in May and now Jeff talks with Karen Aquino the executive director of the Jopline Humane Society to see what is currently happening there as well as some of the amazing stories that have happened.
