Pot Bellied Pigs make great pets and they are smarter than most dogs. These are not your farm variety of pig and they need the care and attention that any other pet would need. George Clooney thought they made great pets and had one named “Max!”

Mike Arms is the President of the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe California and also the spokesperson for Iams Home 4 The Holidays campaign. The goal is to get 1.5 million pets adopted by January 2011 and 5 Million bowls of food donated to shelters in need. They are well on their way but they need our help! Mike is in the business of saving lives and in his 40 years has saved millions of pets. Listen in to this great discussion with Mike as he tells us how he entered this line of work. His ideas and methods are revolutionary. I definitely want to have him back again in the coming weeks to continue the talk. Yes it has been found that your cat is also at risk from this parasite if not treated with preventative! This week Award Winning Author Jenny Pavlovic on her new book “Not Without My Dog!” Dr. Jo-Anne Dixon of the Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley in Idaho and Dr. Patrick Mahaney catches us up on the H1N1 issue.

This book gives you a complete page by page listing of the information you need to collect and keep in one place so you can quickly grab it and run in the event of a disaster around your city. I recommend it highly as how many of us really have a family emergency plan? Adopt-Volunteer-Donate_Foster

Dr. Jo-Anne Dixon DVM is the Executive Director and the Medical Director for the shelter and it is always great to talk with her. They are working on a program for “Pit Bulls” to earn their AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification. THe stigma surrounding these dogs makes it very difficult for people to realize that they are very adoptable and need only the proper training to know how to behave. I’ve said it many times “It’s not the dog, it’s the owner!” The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley promotes companion animal welfare by providing temporary shelter for homeless pets, adopting them to qualified homes, and reducing animal abuse, neglect, and overpopulation through community education and spay/neuter services.
