My Buddy Butch Show 5-28-2011

Hour 1

This week - Attorney Rebekah Lusk of Windy Oak Farm in Maryland, a regular contributor to MBB, is a horse enthusiast, competitive rider and leisure rider of horses. She stops by to talk about the horses that are racing in the Triple Crown races and how they have to be “rehabilitated” or retrained when their racing days are over. Dr. Patrick Mahaney is with us for his series on the volunteer work that he did in Peru and the state of pets there. It SPRING TIME and the bugs are beginning to emerge, Jeff gives some tips on prevention and a reminder about medications for your pets. More Pet treat recalls and a DANGEROUS pet shampoo that has already cause the death of a woman with a preexisting Asthma condition.

MBB Contributor Dr. Fran Walfish clinical Psychologist and author of the Self Aware Parent joins Jeff to talk about people who have replaced Human relationships with pets. Those who are lonely for many reasons may obtain pets to fill the void. Great discussion on this topic. Mallard Ducks are back for spring…here is a little mallard trivia for bird watchers also a quick rundown on Disaster preparedness for your pet and your family. Major airline carriers have raised prices on pet flight - one has actually raised its rate to $250 ONE WAY! It’s clear they don’t want people taking pets on planes. Fatality rate among pets in flight has risen drastically over the last two years.

This week - Barry Irwin founder and CEO of Team Valor International joins us to talk about his winning Kentucky Derby Horse “Animal Kingdom” and his many years in horse racing. He tells us how he chooses a colt for the team and what a Bloodstock agent does. 2nd race of the triple crown is this weekend in Baltimore MD at Pimlico and we’ll be rooting for Animal Kingdom! The last time Dr. Kim Bloomer was with us, she was talking about her Neo Mastiff “Shadrak” and some of the difficulties he was having. She recognized that he was in his last days. Sadly, the very next day Shadrak passed away and Dr. Kim is here to talk about what she did to make his last moments on earth more comfortable and how she is handling the loss. All of our pets will die someday. It’s a fact of life that we don’t like to think about but eventually…

icepilots The New Series on National Geographic Channel – “Ice Pilots” every Friday evening at 10pm Eastern and Pacific. Mikey McBrian is General manager of Buffalo Airlines in the Northwest Territory of Canada and they fly crucial supplies into an area twicw the size of Texas to a population of 40,000 people! Dr. Patrick Mahaney our Vet to the Stars checks in to talk about an injury to a horse that happened at the Kentucky Derby and give us a preview of our new series about his trip to Peru to perform volunteerVeterinary work. Don’t forget today is the Preakness in Baltimore MD. Race coverage is on NBC Sports at 4:30pm Eastern coast to coast. GO Animal Kingdom!

This week – Kentucky Derby Interviews! Bruce Zoldan owner of Fireworks.com, Phantom Fireworks and part of Team Valor International joins us to talk about his winning Kentucky Derby Horse “Animal Kingdom” and what it means for him to be a first time winner after more than 20 years as a fan and 10 years as an owner. We also talk about the last minute change in jockeys due to their normal jockey being injured just days before the race. Jeff goes into some detail on what he observed not only from the press box but also away from the record crowd of 165000 in the “backside” barn area. Jeff was also on the Red Carpet for the “Mint Jubilee” on Friday and on Saturday for the derby and got a few quick words from some celebs. Actor – Senator Fred Thompson checked in with Jeff for a quick word on Heart of A Horse Foundation that he is now helping out with…he has even heard the My Buddy Butch Show…we’re honored! Also Triad Pharmaceuticals in Wisconsin is in big trouble…huge recall of human and pet medical kits contain bacteria that can be deadly. What to do and who to call. We are also heading into traditional allergy season for pets and humans! Hour 2 – Dr. Fran Walfish author of “The Self-Aware Parent” and regular contributor to our show joins us to talk about children that do not get along with the family pet. Cases where the child has bitten the pet and other issues kids have… Also What should you report to the FDA and how should you report it? What are the proper steps?
